Many U.S. students have an inborn dread of organic chemistry. Not so Albert Ndakala!

Dr. Ndakala is a synthetic organic chemist, with a PhD from the University of Connecticut. His focus is on synthesizing small molecules to be tested as drugs against tropical diseases such as malaria and leishmaniasis. He is also interested in developing biodegradable larvicides and other anti-infective agents. He has published in the Journal of Organic Chemistry and other international journals. Dr. Ndakala was awarded a WHO post-doctoral fellowship in medicinal chemistry, and in addition to his academic work has served as a consultant for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals and a patent examiner for the Kenya Industrial Property Institute.
