Your Surplus Can Make a Difference

For scientists in poorer countries, the expense of starting up a modern lab makes carrying out world-class research nearly impossible. For these researchers, access to equipment and supplies – even older models – is the difference between building a functional lab and having to suspend research.

Donating your equipment represents more than a chance to clean out your storage. It is an opportunity to reduce your environmental impact, allow staff to volunteer in a tangible way, meet colleagues both locally and around the world, and contribute to global health and development.

Every company has slightly different policies and requirements governing material donations and the disposal of lab equipment. We can work with you to design a process that works for both of us. To determine your policies, you may want to contact staff in your legal, finance, and environmental health and safety offices.

Here is an overview of how to donate equipment:

  • Please test all your equipment. We cannot accept machines that are broken or overly-outdated (older than 10 years) We do accept new consumables as well as clean glassware.
  • All equipment must be decontaminated and non-radioactive
  • Send us a list of all the items available including number of each, manufacturer and model number
  • We will provide you with inventory numbers with which to label the equipment and supplies
  • Box up or box and palletize the equipment
  • We will provide you with a donation form and liability release which also covers title transfer for the equipment
  • We will arrange to pick up the equipment at your site. We cannot schedule a pickup for less than one pallet, so if you have less equipment at this time, we appreciate it if you can hold on to it until you do have more available to donate.
