Celebrating science in Boston and Kenya
On Monday, December 7th, we were honored to be joined by His Excellency Kenyan Ambassador Peter N.R.O. Ogego. Ambassador Ogego came to Boston to celebrate the achievements of public and private sector science in greater Boston in assisting colleagues in Africa.
This fall Harvard University, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, Millennium Pharmaceuticals and local scientists donated their surplus equipment to ensure that over 3500 students in Nairobi Kenya can receive a high-quality scientific education. They were joined by scientists at Northeastern University, the American Society for Cell Biology, Cold Spring Harbor Press, Garland Press, John Wiley and Sons and W.H. Freeman who contributed textbooks that will help the students make the most of the equipment they receive. Our thanks also go out to our logistics partner Go Global Logistics, for hosting the event and donating their customs clearance services.
This partnership combines environmental responsibility with international cooperation, and leverages the range of Massachusetts’ excellence in scientific research and higher education to reach out to the developing world.
The students in Nairobi will be the next generation of Kenya's scientists and leaders. The training they receive in the labs we equip will prepare them to tackle the issues facing their communities and change lives in their country.
