Hello Global Science Changemakers,
I have an important announcement to make on behalf of Seeding Labs. After seven years as CEO and more than a decade of service on the staff, Melissa P. Wu, PhD will conclude her tenure as Chief Executive Officer at the end of 2026.
Melissa’s relationship with Seeding Labs extends back to its earliest years. Beginning as a volunteer leader of the Harvard Medical School student group that helped form the roots of the organization, and later serving as a founding Board member, staff leader, and ultimately CEO, Melissa has played a pivotal role in shaping Seeding Labs into the international nonprofit organization it is today.
Throughout her leadership, Melissa has remained deeply committed to a simple but powerful principle: talented scientists everywhere should have access to the resources they need to pursue discovery, train the next generation, and develop solutions to the challenges facing their own communities.
On behalf of the Board, I want to express our sincere gratitude to Melissa for her leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to Seeding Labs and the scientists we serve.
As we look toward the future, we are equally pleased to share that Christina Viola Srivastava, currently Vice President of Programs, will become Executive Director beginning in January 2027. Christina brings deep institutional knowledge, a strong understanding of our programs and partners, and a longstanding commitment to the Seeding Labs mission. In this new role, she will focus not only on ensuring continuity of our work, but also on positioning Seeding Labs to expand the depth and reach of its impact around the world.
Christina will work in close partnership with David Qualter, currently Vice President of Operations, who will become Managing Director. David’s extensive expertise in international logistics, supply chain management, and organizational operations has long been essential to Seeding Labs’ ability to move sophisticated scientific equipment across borders and into the hands of researchers who need it. Together, Christina and David bring complementary strengths and a combined 28 years of experience at Seeding Labs.
Melissa will continue to lead the organization through the end of 2026 and will work with Christina, David, the staff, and the Board to support a thoughtful and seamless transition.
The Board sees this moment as both a continuation and a new beginning. Seeding Labs remains firmly committed to its mission of expanding access to the resources necessary for science in developing countries. Our goal for the next chapter is to build upon the foundation established over the past years, strengthen the organization for the future, and extend our ability to help scientists build local research capacity, make discoveries, address challenges within their own communities, and participate fully in the global scientific enterprise.
To Melissa, thank you for your extraordinary commitment to Seeding Labs and for the leadership, vision, and care you have brought to this organization.
And to our staff, partners, donors, equipment contributors, and the scientists and institutions we serve around the world, thank you for being part of this mission. Together, we look forward to the next chapter of Seeding Labs and to continuing to build a world in which scientific talent has the opportunity and resources to flourish, wherever it is needed.
With gratitude,
Chad R. Jackson, PhD
Board Chair, Seeding Labs
